Independent Pets That Don’t Need A Lot Of Attention

Many of us want to welcome a pet into our lives. Sadly, not all of us have a ton of time to give them love and cuddles. There might be a solution. Here are some pretty independent pets that don’t need a lot of attention.

Hamsters

One great thing about hamsters is the fact that they are nocturnal. This is great for people that are out of the house all day! As if that wasn’t enough, they are also pretty cheap to care for and can be entertained with a few toys and tunnels dotted around their cage. The best bit? Their adorableness is still enough to put a smile on our face at the end of a long day.

Tortoises

They might look like pet rocks, but tortoises are actually full of personality. They can be left in an indoor enclosure all day so long as they have some heat, food, and spots to hide. Just be sure to let your tortoise out to stretch their legs every now and then, and that you spot clean their home every few days.

Snakes

Some snakes are a little trickier than others. However, most of them don’t require a lot of attention. Most only eat every few weeks and don’t need a lot to keep them occupied. Just be sure to keep their home warm and humid enough, and your snake can often be left for hours at a time.

Leopard geckos

Although some lizards need a lot of care and attention, leopard geckos are one of the easiest species to own. You need to do a little research to make sure you have the right home and set-up before welcoming your new friend, but most leopard geckos are happy to keep themselves amused. They’re also pretty striking additions to the home.

Rats

Would you believe that rats are actually pretty intelligent? That’s right; they are tidy animals that often love to live with other rats. Rats will regularly clean their own cage and keep things in order, and will even groom one another. As if that wasn’t enough, rats are nocturnal, so they will likely be asleep all day while you’re at work. Could we ask for much more?

Fish

We admit that not all fish are simple to look after, but some can be left without much attention. There are plenty of freshwater and tropical fish that could soon be a bright addition to your home. There are so many aquarium additions that can quickly become a feature point of the room, while the fish themselves come in all colors and sizes. A local pet shop should be able to give all the advice you need to make sure you keep your fish happy and healthy.

You might not have a lot of extra time on your hands, but that doesn’t mean that you have to go without a pet. In fact, there are plenty of independent pets that don’t need a lot of attention that still make great additions to the family.
