Thanksgiving is a time for many of us to relax, unwind, and remember what we’re thankful for in this world. However, it can also be a time of great stress for anyone who wants to stick to their health and lifestyle goals. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to enjoy a health-conscious Thanksgiving.
Control your portions
One of the worst things that many of us do during the holidays is forget all about our portion control. It can quickly go out the window as we load our plates as high as they will go. However, there is no reason anyone has to miss out on their favorite foods at Thanksgiving if we all remember to control our portions. After all, we don’t have to have 10 scoops of mashed potato or half a turkey just to have a great day, right?
Focus on your loved ones
Thanksgiving isn’t just about the delicious selection of food on the table. It’s also a time to remember the loved ones in our lives and what they bring to our world. A health-conscious Thanksgiving becomes easier when we forget about what’s on the menu and focus on how thankful we are to have these people in our lives. Why not pick up a board game or settle down with something fun to do instead of talking all about the food on the table?
Perhaps you want to enjoy everything that Thanksgiving has to offer without the worry of piling on the pounds or not having pants that stretch wide enough? It can be great to start any day with exercise, but it’s even better to get up and active when there’s plenty of relaxing on the cards. The best bit? You can even grab your friends and family and get active together. An after-dinner walk or a football game can be a great way to spend time with our loved ones.
It can be hard to resist the temptation to grab a few more mouthfuls of food at the end of any meal. If you can, it’s best to skip any seconds at Thanksgiving if you want to keep your health in mind. After all, it can take up to 20 minutes for your brain to register that you’ve had enough to eat. That could be the difference between having just enough to eat and overdoing it with another helping of all the favorites.
Remember to relax
The holidays are usually a reason to celebrate. Just because many of us want to have a health-conscious Thanksgiving doesn’t mean we have to keep that thought in our minds all day. Not sticking to your exercise regime or easing up on your macros probably won’t undo any hard work that you’ve achieved so far. It could be time for your body – and mind – to have a well-earned day off.
Having a health-conscious Thanksgiving doesn’t have to be as tough as it seems. However, it’s important to remember to relax and enjoy the holidays, too.
